Guitar lessons near Dearborn MI

The guitar is the most popular of the stringed instruments. Variations of the guitar have been around for a long time, with the earliest stringed instruments dating back thousands of years. While there are many types of guitars, the most common is the 6-string guitar. The guitar is frequently used in pop, rock, and country music.

At Music Authority School, we have a team of highly-skilled guitar teachers boasting many years of guitar playing, and education experience with a passion for seeing our students excel. We serve all local communities of Wayne County with private guitar lessons, tailored to the unique needs of you or your child.

Prefer taking guitar lessons remotely? Music Authority now offers online guitar lessons.

What is a good age to start guitar lessons?

The age a child is ready to begin guitar lessons varies from child to child. Many students start as young as five. If you think your child may be ready to begin guitar lessons, you may schedule a 30-minute introductory lesson and one of our instructors will assess your child’s readiness to begin guitar lessons. Children who are too young to begin guitar lessons are encouraged to enroll in Music Authority’s Music Play for Beginners Program.

While not all young children are ready to begin guitar lessons, it’s never too late to start! Many of our students are adults who are eager to cultivate their passion for music.

Who should play the guitar?

The guitar is a great choice for people who want to learn the complexities of the instrument and for those who want to learn to strum along to their favorite songs. Because of its versatility, the guitar is a good instrument for musicians who are interested in all genres, whether they want to learn classical music or rock and roll!

What can I expect in a typical guitar lesson?

Guitar lessons are tailored to suit a student’s individual needs. Because each person learns differently, there is no set curriculum. Our highly trained guitar teachers will assess the student in the initial lesson and devise a plan of study. The student will be assigned guitar books which we have available for purchase in the studio.

Students will learn a variety of skills to help them develop as musicians. As a student progresses, they will learn about different forms of music and may choose to study specialized skills such as improvisation or composition. Our guitar students are exposed to a wide variety of music such as classical, jazz, and pop. We encourage advancing students to collaborate with other musicians and vocalists; many of our more advanced guitar students practice their collaborative skills with other students.

Performance is an important part of studying music, and at Music Authority we prepare students for two recitals each year. Many of our students also compete in the American Guild of Music competition in April of each year.

How long will it take to learn the guitar?

A musician never stops learning! How quickly a guitar student advances depends on age and the amount of practice put in. Your guitar teacher will help you devise a practice plan to help you reach your guitar playing goals.

What kind of guitar should I purchase?

There are many types of guitars, including child-sized instruments for younger players. Whether a student plays an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar is largely a matter of preference. Your guitar teacher can discuss different types of guitars with you and help you find the perfect one!
